LOL yeah.
Part of it is project backlog. Work has gotten a lot more demanding, so I don't have a lot of spare time for projects. When I do get some free time, I want to fly. As a result, I've got a growing pile of parts I have bought, and a growing list of things I need to do.
The thing about Florida is there is a limited season where projects are viable. After about April, it is too hot to work on or in the plane. It is also too humid to do dope work. There are also several acro contests in April and May.
So if I were to get an engine monitor now, I would have to defer several other needed projects until next year, or keep working into flying season.
Finally, based on my aircraft history, I do expect an overhaul sooner rather than later. Maybe I'll get lucky and get another few years out if it. But I am flying that plane hard and putting a lot of hours on it, so I wouldn't be shocked if it happened anytime.
If that happens, based on current backlogs at engine shops, I'm probably looking at 4-6 months AOG. That will be plenty of time to do all my projects. So right now I'm gonna focus on flying, and on smaller projects that don't require a lot of down time
