Super Decathlon San Diego

Back to the Decathlon - owner told me today that equivalent aircraft are selling as high as 135. I said "selling" or "asking?" Can we track sales prices, as opposed to asking?

My advice was to sell it for what he has in it - I think around 80. That's when he told me they were in the 120 vicinity.

I saw this one the other day and thought of you Bob. IMHO, this one is a good example of a Bellanca wood spar Super D at $83,000

$83,000 might actually be a little high for this one. I'd bet he ends up selling it for closer to $70,000.

when you say new engine and paint do you mean new-new or overhauled engine?

Yes, but how would we know? Using asking prices to determine market value might not be the best bet.

Always reject a deal if you figure out you are paying more than it is worth?

Two on Barnstormers. - roughly equivalent with maybe several hundred more engine hours - asking 78 and 80.
Interesting.

Based on what you've posted, that it's new paint over old fabric and original wood spars, it seems the new engine can only do so much to lift the value. Like it or not, original wood spars don't command top dollar, regardless of what else has been done. Not to say there isn't going to be a buyer, there just won't be as many and the price will be affected.

He did it. Sold for $120 grand.
Good engine, good prop, good avionics, good upholstery. A few fatigue cracks in new paint over old fabric.
So there!
