image2.jpegErroneous pirep led me to fly into the Cascades looking to land on a glacier gravel bar. Alas, still too much snow. Landing area is just left of the front strut and brace in the third picture. Try again next month.

That’s pretty damn cool, we’ll be waiting for the pics when it happens. 😁
Oh, I’ve been before a few times. Always somebody getting slung out on the end of a longline. Notice the Christmas tree tied to the tail for directional stability - not his first rodeo.

Here’s a video where you can compare my Citabria takeoff from there with a couple of SuperCubs (cough cough).

Good flying community in Port Angeles, last summer we had an aerobatics day off the west end of the runway. Good crowd out of that big hangar on the west side. Weather can get rough though.

Alright, It wasn't quite today... but I thought these were worth sharingCFVEE3.webp

Astoria has a pleasant FBO and a long runway. Enjoy!

thought about Astoria - opted for Seaside instead (buddy lives in Gearhart).. lessons learned in Seaside after two go-arounds.. small field= tight!
but great experience piloting in there.
great XC flight. some lessons learned there and on the way back.
*cell phone charger
*more altitude(?)
*cleaner calls w/ ATC
*fuel monitor / efficient fuel burn
*PLB(?)

maybe Rainbow Ron next..

*Cape Disappointment
*Columbia River bar
*Astoria
*Mt. Olympus
*Hurricane Ridge
*Hoh River valley … kind of

great flight.. plane ran so smooth.

Flying through there next month. They tell me Salem is a good overnight stop for really old Cub pilots? I can no longer walk ten miles for dinner and sleep under the wing.
Lebanon was my first thought.

Seaside is really close to my home field, so I went to land there last year. Deceptively short! I had to do my first (surprise) go around in years. 😄
