didnt take any photos while at altitude.. focused purely on airwork today w/ a few bounces in the pattern..
i did stop on Alpha to snap these pictures..
then i cont’d the taxi!

also - the dry’sorb is my addition - not b/c its from my plane (i use grandpa’s tray).. but b/c previous tenants really stained that area.

great airport visit today.

cheers,
b

*oh yea - and i’m playing with passive ‘warming’ system once the GoldenRods arrive and a lamp light.. tbd on that.

Brought her home today. Met the owner at 0630 and was on my way by 0730 from Lakeland, FL, stopped in Statesboro, Ga, Lynchburg, VA and landed back at the home field (N85) by around 1830 just as the sun was setting. About 9.4 total flying time!

first AM in Lakeland

Okefenokee swamp is huge, the picture doesn't do it justice. It's one of those places you hear about but then I saw its name on the chart and took a pic

A mine in Pennsylvanie that is clipping the top off the ridge :(

Falwell Airport just north of Lynchburg, VA, land uphill to the west and takeoff downhill to the east! I stopped there becuase it looked like food might be close to the airport but had no idea the runway was pitched at five degrees!

Nice pix, thanks for sharing. Wow, 9+ hours of flight time in one day! Looks like it was a great trip with good weather.

The weather was perfect, visibility was at least 50 miles most of the time. The only bad thing was the wind was blowing directly from NJ to FL so had anywhere from ten to twenty knots of headwinds the whole time. If I could have made the trip work on the 19th the winds will be screaming from the exact opposite direction, Foreflight says it would take TWO HOURS less time! crazy, right?? But I couldn't do that and just wanted to get it home so here we are.

Try headwinds in a modified Super Cub - I spent two days at between 50 and 60 knots in Arizona and New Mexico last week. No photos - I picked up a ten knot tailwind the last day and went from Pecos to Graham in 3 1/2 hours - showing 80-85 knots!

The Cub indicated 80-85 mph at 2400 rpm. Even my J3 indicates faster, and at 2200 with a wood prop!

Yesterday my brother and I accomplished our bi-annual "Thousand Mile Commute" from Bozeman to Tucson. It was three, three+ hour legs and a long day in the saddle.

The airplane lives with me in the winter and with my brother in Bozeman in the summer when it's too hot to fly in Tucson. We've been doing the "commute" for 20+ years.

The photos were taken from 10500' in the Centennial Mountains in Montana.

Finally got out and flew 46B again today after flying it home more than a month ago! I didn't get any photos but it flew great and oil pressure in sustained inverted flight was comparable to upright flight.

I have to ask though, is it me or do Decathlons just seem like they want to wheel land more than Citabrias? Maybe I'm just flying the pattern too fast but I've been wheel landing it which is weird for me because I never wheel land tailwheel airplanes!

I'll get pics next time. :)

Every landing in a Decathlon is a wheel landing. If you full-stall it you may jam the mains right on up into the wings. Fly it on, but touch down on all three.

I'm not a very experienced tailwheel pilot, and when I started flying the decathlon a few months ago, i remember thinking, "wow, wheel landings aren't as hard as I remember them being". I just assumed at the time that I was getting better at them, but this and the other discussions on this site about decathlon landings makes me wonder if I'm just flying an airplane that likes wheel langdings.

Flew a slightly faster plane than my 7GCBC up to the wife's family Thanksgiving. My wife's family lives just a few miles from the American Champion factory. I want to make the trip up here in the Citabria one day and fly into the ACA airport.

Great flying airplanes! My first commercial gig was in a 1900D, just an amazing airplane to fly around in while getting paid. :)

I agree. It has ruined a lot of great airplanes for me ha. 2100shp and 5,000lbs+ of useful will spoil you.

Sorry for asking what has probably already been discussed... did you finally pull the trigger on getting that Citabria flying club up and running via this airplane, or is this a personal acquisition?
