Went Flying Today......2018

Interesting sidebar: When I was in 5th grade, we had a substitute teacher one day. I remember it very well, because the date was December 7th, 1969. We were studying about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, 28 years earlier. As we talked about it, our substitute teacher parted his hair to show us a scar on his scalp. Turns out that he was 4 years old, his dad was a sailor stationed at Pear Harbor when the attack took place. The scar was from a bullet fired by one of the Japanese aircraft strafing the base. His mother was wounded in the arm at the same time. I tell you, meeting someone who lived through the attack changed the perspective on that event, and brought it to life for a class of 5th graders!

I learned later that Ms. Cavenaugh - our regular teacher - had intentionally planned to be out that day, and had specifically asked him to teach in her place so he would be the one to teach that session. She was probably the best elementary school teacher I ever had! Really knew who to keep a bunch of pre-teens engaged with the material...)

Double extra sidebar, (Feel free to reprimand me but the subject is now what it is.)
In my opinion, the scene from Tora in which the Japanese take off at sunrise is one of the best in all of moviedom.
It is without soundtrack but for the radial engine sounds and charged with history. Well done.

in the absence of a regular flow of personal photos, cool flying stories will have to suffice! :)

Bart, you know how they say some people have a face for radio? My airplane looks best in cool flying stories, rather than in pictures. (Unless they are small, low-resolution, and taken from far away, like the one in my avatar...)

yours looks like a show plane compared to mine and you know when it's done I'm going to be posting photos of us out having fun together! I should call mine ugly betty, maybe when i paint the wings i'll add some scallops.

No ships around but flew 20 miles to the Mississippi to get this.6DEC86F9-9D15-4ABF-8BBA-C7369FDEFCA3.webp

Nice. I haven't taken a photo while flying since the 1970s, but I can report 379 taildragger landings in August, and ten today.

Yes sir. Honored to post on the same pages as people such as yourself. Mostly I just read and learn. My little GoPro runs all the time and I take the screenshots out when I get home. That way I don't have to tell people what I did or saw-I just show 'em. Flying is never disappointing !
(And the great guy that started this site is always asking for pictures.)

Took the Champ across the mountains at Donner Pass to the 2018 High Sierra Fly-in on Dead Cow lake bed north of Reno Nevada. The unofficial count was just under 400 airplanes. Lots of dust but a great show with the STOL drag races, the biggest campfire and the most in your face fireworks display I've ever seen. Sort of like Burning Man for pilots

That is a ballsy looking Champ. I guess that's like saying "tough looking Basset hound", but I'm sure everyone here gets it.

This was about a month ago. Flew up to Friday Harbor with my favorite person. Flew over this Trident sub being escorted into the straits. A lot of people on the aft deck getting their last breath of fresh air for a while.

There goes my theory that all pictures like that are taken by military because they keep others out of that airspace.
SPY CHAMP is the new U2!
