stopped in a friend's shop where the faa is storing a recent accident aircraft. the guy apparently tried to land downwind after an instrument approach, landed long and then stalled as he tried to go around.

@volvo164 and I (and George) met up today at Van Sant Airport in beautiful Erwinna, PA to have a go at flying the primary figures. First time for both Laszlo and me at flying in front of someone and did we learn a lot! George showed up with his '79 Super D :) but without a parachute :(

First day in the bag at Sebring. Good day of flying in challenging conditions. First flight had cloud ceiling at 3100 AGL. Made hammerheads and Humpty's suspenseful. Second flight had 20mph wind at 45 degree angle to box, making positioning very challenging. And landing in a 15 mph crosswind component was giving everyone fits.

Finished my Emergency Maneuver Training at CP Aviation in Santa Paula flying a basic aerobatic sequence that I'd designed myself. Flying the school's 7KCAB with 150HP fixed pitch... gotta watch those RPMs.

Got through the whole thing twice, staying above my minimum altitude. It sure wasn't perfect, but it was a heck of a lot of fun!

Right now I'm building time for my instrument rating, so it's back in the 172 fleet at my main flight school (Above All at KSBA). I will be returning to polish off my tailwheel endorsement at CP Aviation, just need a day with decent crosswinds, but the weather and my schedule haven't cooperated.

From there, aiming at my CPL and CFI and plan to insruct part time. My kids are off to college soon and I figure it will help keep me busy and, more importantly, flying.

My heart wants nothing more than a Citabria or Decathlon, but the hangar situation here in Santa Barbara is not an easy nut to crack, and I don't know if I can in good faith bring myself to park a fabric covered plane on the ramp. So we'll see! I'm focusing on my networking and trying to make that dream a reality.

Getting the CFI done and being able to pass it along to the next generation of pilots is cool too! Good luck with everything :TU:
Someone's gotta teach all these pilots that are needed today! Figure it might as well be me. My grandfather was a primary flight instructor in WWII and I figure it's following in the family tradition.
