What did you do to your bird today?

I love a little fabrication now and then. Have to make a tailwheel adapter for my tug, ordered steel this week. Good times!

Those aren't bolts... they're screws and they're only for mockup.
Got the inside handle fabbed and the outside handle set up today... I ran a mig bead on the shaft and ground it to fit one of the corners on the stock square cavity handle (likely a 40's vintage off the shelf ford) then I drilled the shaft for to match the roll pin holes in the stock handle.
I used a piece of 4130 round tube to build the inside handle and pinned it too.

We took the headliner out of the box today and clamped it up today... things will get sticky Monday.
What have you guys done to make allowance for the rear shoulder strap?

Started on annual, replaced leaky oil pressure line to the gauge that has probably been leaking forever! How do people ignore these things?

New LED landing light also. People WILL see me coming! Lol

Swung by the hangar, removed the lower wing root fairings and found wiring for old style whelen strobes. I'm guessing the wires were installed by Bellanca when the plane was built even though the plane was ordered with nav lights only. The good thing is, I can now order LED wingtip strobe/nav lights and have enough wires to switch the nav lights and the strobes separately. This will also make the plane legal for night VFR. I really didn't want to have the nav and strobe lights on one switch so this is good!

Yesterday I put in 6 hours on the headliner. I got the forward half of the cabin covered.
How much time did it take for those of you that have installed them?

I’ve only done one and it was slow going. It’s a weird process, not like other stuff unless you do a lot of upholstery so just take your time and it’ll be nice.

Its my third rodeo with the headliner demon. Total time was about 11 hours not including the shoulder harness backer through plate. PIA, but its a challenge i dont mind.Screenshot_20260318_150300_Gallery.webpScreenshot_20260318_150305_Gallery.webpScreenshot_20260318_150313_Gallery.webpScreenshot_20260318_152405_Gallery.webpScreenshot_20260318_202519_Gallery.webpScreenshot_20260318_202524_Gallery.webp

Swapped out the tailwhel steering springs with compression style springs. I like the little bit of slack at center that lets the tailwheel be when the rudder is straight. My IA friend said we'll include it with the other work being done for the annual when we make the entry. I'm not sure when the annual will be done and I'll have a chance to try it.

The left wing fuel drain developed a drip on Sunday that I couldn’t stop after a bunch of times jabbing it up and down trying to clear whatever was caught. Went out at lunch today with long gloves and a rag wrapped around each wrist and got it swapped out with relatively little fuss. Old one doesn’t look bad so I figure I’ll clean it up, find a new o-ring for the tip and have a spare for next time.

I have the same size springs on mine. At least with my setup, you need to leg press the pedals on the ground if you are even remotely near max gross. I like them when you're landing on taking off as it forces you to make small movements, but they are a bear to taxi with. My plane is a bit tail heavy so I'm sure that adds to it. Looking to change them out for lighter compression springs, my friend's Husky has ones about half the size.

please post a link to a new thread if you find out where his springs came from. The ones in the pic came from Aircraft Spruce, they were about $55 for the set.
