2026 WENT FLYING TODAY! ***PICTURES/VIDEO THREAD***

Early morning is best in that area. Been there, but never saw the sunflowers in bloom.

My last couple of Cub flights in that area were out of Trinity or Redding southbound at sunup.
 
Finally returned the Decathlon to the air! Flew up to the NW corner of New Jersey where the highest elevation in the state is marked with a monument, at 1803’ MSL, it is appropriately named High Point and the Appalachian Trail goes right past it on its way up into New England.

That's great! Congrats and thanks for answering a years old question. When my wife's mom was still alive we would fly into Slatington for visits and fly over that monument. I always wanted to look it up, but never remembered.

I went to the Corvallis Corkscrew last month and flew in my first aerobatics competition. It was super fun! I made a video, it's kinda long (11 minutes) but might be interesting for anyone who hasn't flown in a competition before.

Congrats, and you made the first turnoff on landing. No pants allowed on Decathlons?

I took them off because they seem to always get in my way... I can't check the tire pressure with them on, and it's really convenient to stand of the wheel when I'm checking the fuel. My wife teases me about it though, because she says her plane looks better with the wheelpants on.
 
Same as Bob, mine have been on the shelf for 15 years, even removed the mounting plates. Might sell them now.
 
No, no, no! Even though it takes me 6 hours to add air to my mains. Even though I have permanent scars on my shins from walking into a wheel pant every time I enter my hanger. Even though...... even though. I love the looks of the wheel pants on my Super D!
 
That's nothing - the Cub guys put 31" tires on their airplanes just to look cool. Most never leave the pavement.

Looking cool is ok in my book - and you get an extra 0.3 knots out of it, as well, even though it reduces your useful load. The Cub guys actually take a serious performance hit, in addition to losing over a hundred lbs of useful load. But it makes them happy, and that, after all, is the goal.
 
I picked up this angled adapter and now I can air up my tires without even loosening the wheel pant. Still gotta lay on the floor though. You can get them on Amazon IMG_7271.webp
 
My problem is laziness. My tires are now needing air - I am putting it off because the watermelon is in the Cub hangar. Think of how much longer I could put it off if I had to lay on the ground and screw that neat little doo-dad on and off?

In the Cub, low pressure is asking for a sheared valve stem. So far, that has not been true for the Decathlon.
 
Ordered mine from Amazon. Will give it a try. Lying down on the floor is not a problem...it's the getting up part......
 
Jim!! congrats on the show/contest! some of the coolest chair flying I've done in awhile- thanks for sharing! x2 or 3 on the wheel pants removed. my dad loves 'em on. I like ease of them off.
