Instrument Panels, Posts w/ Pics

You need an aluminum sheet - .080 seems to work - and a fly cutter. Caution on the fly cutter; you need to clamp the aluminum to the drill press securely and keep your hands out of there. And wear eye protection.

I have done my Dec (page 1 above), a Mooney, and four Piper Cubs. The layout for standard instruments is really easy.
I am sure CadCam would make short work of it, but the time spent on programming and setup would be more than just cutting one panel.

Nice panel bob. I’m wanting to use the new straight flat panel design. But was hoping to find a blank or at least the measurements from the new on. My friend writes cad code and said he’d do it for the layout, but need a blank or measurements. Thanks for the reply

That one looks like the tall panel - like mine, only I have steam gauges. Did I ever tell you I am a steam locomotive nut?

My panel ready to go together...
Impressive ain't it?

I DO plan on putting a pocket on the top of the instrument panel next to the fuel gauge for my MFD*.

*MFD= Manually Finding Directions (sectionals).😊

Is there a lot of welding you have to do to replace the panel with a newer version ?

Not really Sam. It depends on what you have and what you're trying to do. It seems for most of the Citabrias you can swap out the different styles without any welding, it's mostly a matter of getting support for the radios and fitting everything in where you want it.

We didn't do too much to our 1979 7GCBC panel during the restoration - over budget as it was! We did add the new crossbar cover, the vernier mixture, cigar lighter charging port, air vent below the G5 and a new Air Gizmo dock with a Garmin Aera 660 for GPS. (Not shown, we added a GDL-50R for ADSB-In to the 660 & iPad Mini, a GMU-11 Magnetometer and a GAD-13 & GTP-59 for Air Data to the G5)

2006 Scout. Here is my panel. I want to add an engine analyzer and dual GI275. I just swap the 530 for a 530W.

Wow. That is probably the best equipped old school panel I have ever seen on one of these birds. A pair of GI275 would be freakin' spectacular. Is your aircraft IFR certified?

I don't see a fuel pressure gauge. That has been a huge source of headache for me. Is that not required equipment on yours?

Not sure as im new to the Scout. Can you get fuel pressure with a carb?

It came from the factory like this, I dont even have a CHT gauge.

My mistake, I assumed it was fuel injected like my Decathlon.

No requirement for CHT unless you have cowl flaps. I don't have one either. I do have an EGT. I'm planning to add a 4 cylinder EGT/CHT in near future.

I believe all Scout’s are IFR certified If equipped. I do fly it IFR when needed. I do need to install my pitot heat.

Too busy flying it on skis.

Nice! Really like the GEM replacing all the engine gauges.

You have the low panel, like me. I prefer it. More visibility is better in a stick and rudder bird.

Would you mind posting a photo of your mixture vernier? I'm looking to convert to a vernier, but unsure how to fit the knob to the panel ledge.

I’m kinda thinking about a panel upgrade on mine in the mid future. I think I’ll keep it short but make it clean and minimal. 2 AV30’S and a CGR-30 engine monitor. Dump everything else but the g-meter.
