Citabria Turn coordinator replacement suggestions?

This is the DG mode I prefer (several options are available). Note the loss of the digital ball in this presentation inspiring my desire to add the mechanical one.

Nice! So you have it connected via RS-232 to your GPS/Com, right? How do you like that? Looks like a great solution to improve on the limitations of an older GPS display.

Can you still access magnetic heading, or will the AV-30 only give track in that configuration?

I do have mine connected to the GPS via an RS-232 interface. There is capability to connect to the transponder for basic function control on the AV-30 but to my knowledge, no ADSB capability. It will display “non-slaved” HDG info only but magnetometer function is approved and should be available with a Spring 2023 revision (according to uAvionix)

I'm looking forward to the remote magnetometer, and hoping it comes in time to install in my rebuild. Have heard many stories about precession, so a remote sensor out on a wingtip away from any ferrous material makes sense.

The remote magnetometer for the AV-30 is called AV-Mag. This is from uAvionix's website:

Pricing and Availability

  • AV-Mag for experimental aircraft is available now and begins shipping immediately for $249 (US) from uAvionix.com, our network of qualified Installers, and trusted resellers.
  • AV-Mag for certified aircraft is currently pending STC/PMA certification and is expected to begin shipping Spring 2023.

maybe check the specs, pull wires near an inspection plate and install it when it becomes available. a remote magnetometer and steady heading is more than any of us deserve!
