Bruce 79 ECA recover

They tell me to soak them in water overnight the vise grips might mak it quicker to roll over on itself vs c clam being slower but I thought the same thing.

I said the same thing and asked if it should be hot and they say no, so not sure why but don’t mess with success! I know some one has done this hope they jump in.

The grommets not sure if they soften

not Sure what they are made of but there not metal don’t think it’s plastic either. So I will assum they absorb some water and become playable then dry back out.

So today I replaced all the o rings in brake system, installed inspection rings and drains. Trying to figure out if I need the skylight before covering the rest of the plane.

ordered the paint yesterday and then today received an email the headliner is on its way, I can start making more progress I hope. now for how to cut the holes for the seat belts!

Well my headliner arrived today only Two months after I ordered it. All excited went to the garage Placed it on airframe and started scratching my head. So I went and pulled the old one, I think somethings missing from this! anybody with advice please help. But should there be some fabric to wrap around the sides to attach it and also some fabric on the front to attach it to the back of the skylight. Not to mention I don’t have the piece that goes around the front of the skylight area. Anybody else run into this? This is from aircraft spruce.

Well you are ahead of me. Ordered mine April 22. Told 2 weeks. Still not here. Will let you know when it arrives.

Ordered mine on 4-14 so u should bee soon. Had instructions to bad they don’t apply to us the more I look at it and try to figure how to attach the more I realize they didn’t put the fabric along the seams that you staple to the sides, front and back of the skylight. At this point maybe should have spent the extra money for the Aerotex. We will see I sent them pictures also mine only had one zipper they put 3 in it not sure why.

that sucks Bruce! If you return it and get a refund you can still go with Aerotex, no? Is Aerotex considered the best of the non-custom options? Vinyl?

Not sure who is the best I have looked at there interior kits our club installed one in a 170B and I am pleased, at the time I ordered the headliner aerotex was still shut down with the covid they only opened this week. They told me 4 weeks on interior side panels and late aug for seats the good thing is the state is finally starting to open they are based in PA I have ordered a sample fabric to pick colors. Would be interesting to see if they put the fabric on the sides of yours. I assume I could take it to a local upholstery shop and use some scraps of my fabric to make it work, but they claimed it would fit. And I paid for the correct item.

Well, I am not optimistic based on your report. I wonder what they will send me. We are considering sewing from scratch with a pattern taken off a decathlon.

Yeah, and then they took one look at my headliner and decided not to copy it?

Putting a headliner in an already completed fuselage looks difficult. I will look more closely.

I understand your position, I originally thought I could have this flying in less than a year. Then reality Sunk in, I am lucky that I have another plane to fly so no withdraws but things like the order of assembly slow me down. If I did this for a living and not a one off let alone the first fabric work in over 35 years. I think I’m spending more time planning and researching than working on the plane. Next is site prep, making a paint booth took time. Cleaning off old glue, making a workstation for fabric and so on. One day it will be done I have determined not to rush anything and accept the delays.

In short keep the faith and march forward the headliner I have been told is much easer to install before the fabric is put on the airframe. My paint arrived yesterday and reading back in the Stwarts Manuel with ecopoxy it must be sealed then cure for 6 hours before top coat question is do you have to scuff sand before application of color or can it just be painted, If the Manuel states this I missed it so Monday I’ll give Andy a call they have been great to work with.
