What did you do to your bird today?

Sticker shock! pretty funny

I unpacked a new Adlog book for the 8KCAB and I'm experiencing AD shock going through all of the pages of AD's seeing which ones apply, have been complied with, etc! I had no idea there were so many AD's on Pacific Scientific harness hardware!

I bet you won't find any on Hookers.
There should be an AD on those horrible metal things at the end of the shoulder harnesses that have to slide together over a notched tongue. Just tried one today -took four tries.

Im just stoked you guys got the joke!

I have a local friend who does masks for me from time to time and he rolls them for me, not super tight, about 8".... never any issues. I got a $3000 mask from plane schemers once amd it was a 10" role packed in a square box about 4' long.... no issues. I dont believe they've been doing masks that long... from what they said.

This isn't the first time this fuel tank has been repaired. Not to mention the scheme wasn't layed out by factory drawings when the wing was last recovered. Anyway I get to unfrag someone's crappy layout work now.

Elegant! All I did today was shrink the leading edge fabric on the spare Stearman wing, change the oil in the instructional Cub, and shoot 7 landings. This evening I am machining side rods for a model. And entertaining The Greek.

I might be tempted to leave off the striping tape - looks good as-is.

Much appreciated, but the lines just aren't sharp enough for that.... so hi ho hi ho, its off to stripe I go!

Thanks... So here's one for you. Anyone know why?
So... uh, the pf manual says the stc is void if you dont use pf reinforcement tapes under rivets and lacing.... if you've ever read the pf manual, how did you miss this?
The rivets tore through both the cover and the 1" wide finish tape they laid instead of reinforcement twill tape.. oh boy.

Well, ok, but the instructions are for rib lacing, and most of the ACA products I see with pop rivets have wider tape. I have not yet done an entire Champ wing, but I might spend a bit more time researching for pop rivet applications. ACA might have some tips.

It took me a long time to figure this out, but it works a lot better if, after sticking the reinforcing tape down, you coat it with some Poly Brush, and let that harden for at least several hours before you poke holes.

In the olden days, Ray used a variation of glass reinforced strapping tape. That worked quite well without coating. And at the time it was approved. But I am starting to like the Polyester twill.

Ok, im not saying its my first rodeo... Anyway I've seen plenty of covers come off.... piper stuff, citabrias scouts etc. I'm a covering nerd... I know the difference between lacing and stitching. I just love this stuff. I love sanding and shooting paint even more.
Of those wings I uncovered I did a citabria that had fiberglass tape under the rivets... but the cover that came off wasn't pf, it was dope. Yes your correct pb soaked twill tape is easier to work with.

The point of my post was that this was a pf cover job, and by the book, it wasn't done correctly... the caution states the stc is negated if the twill tape isn't used.
I was left wondering why the caution wasn't observed... thats all.

So just in case I ever have to recover my Decathlon, do I go with the Stitts version where the reinforcing tape has to match the width of the cap strip, or do I go with the ACA version where it is an inch wide? And the Stitts idea of using two 1/2" tapes would work for lacing, but it looks like a bad idea for pop rivets.

The rivet holes are less than a half inch dia, of course, but they do weaken the tape where you poke them. That's where the extra width comes in.
Where is Bart? He just did several restorations.

If you are using the poly fiber system you have to do it by the poly fiber book, and that requires the polyester twill tape. Read the caution, if you use anything else, it voids the stc.
Use the width of reinforcement tape that exactly matches the width of the rib cap..

What you choose to do is up to you. The covering system you use is the determining factor here. If you choose to install the covering outside of the guidelines the system requires, then the consequences of failure are on you. RS system is no longer around, it evolved into the pf system, so what used to be, is now irrelevant.
ACA, I never said this wing was covered by aca, it wasn't. If ACA covers them this way... then they have the authority to do it as they wish.
The rest of us have to walk the line whichever system lays out as gospel.
I know that aviat and cub crafters both finish with paint that is not aerothane... they have different privileges than we do... TC and pma.
I hope that helps... that is how I understand it.

ACA uses a fiberglass self-adhesive reinforcing tape under the pop-rivet heads but you have to put a coat of fabric adhesive down before sticking it to the fabric. I just got done/home from a red-eye so I’ll look up the correct product later.
