What did you do to your bird today?

Pre-oiled to 45 psi with plugs out, and contact! She's alive... a nice list of nit-pic items and she's dunnnnn!

You opened all your wing inspection ports?

Nice looking bird. Nice choice of colors.

I love having the combo of a GI275 and CGR30P like that in mine. Everything you need in a simple to use and scan format.

And the layout is similar to vintage -12. With the multifunctionality of the modern instrumentation I think the drive for the traditional 6 pack will fade. Take cub crafters panels, a big rectangle in the middle flanked with backups on the sides.

Things are looking up. Starting to install glass, and the battery is in. All the lights work now.

Doing something similar minus the Airspeed and Altimeter. GI-275 primary and GI-275 EIS with an iPad in an Airgizmos mount. Same radios as you. I only needed a transponder but at the time I purchased the GNX-375, it was only an extra $1500 over a GTX-345 so I went with the 375. Overkill for a VFR bird but short of doing a ILS in a pinch I can't imagine needing much more as far as radios. It will look pretty sparse for a bit though.

I'm getting a new panel from ACA so it will look like their current panels minus the G3X. I will probably put the Airgizmos iPad mount and the EIS in the place where the G3X is supposed to go. When Garmin comes out with a replacement/upgrade to the G3X, I will find someone who has a current G3X and "needs" the new one.

Everything in the old panel except the compass will be sold if anyone needs anything. The vacuum system too.

rsguy3, I thought I replied to you panel picture. I must have picked the wrong one to reply to.

Designing panels for me is one of the most rewarding things I do. Always a challenge, my end goal is to have a layout that isn't cluttered, it has to have the ability to impart immediate usable data without needing a gigantic head turning scan. I absolutely love the new generation of engine mfd's because they're programmed to a set of parameters from the manufacturer.. the real kicker for me is the master caution light... or the OJL/idiot light, set to light when parameters are exceeded. Game changer, and in my mind allows for more SA in the scan.
I love my flush iPad mount, a guardian, it has a built in fan and it hasn't overheated or died on me so thats another arrow for my quiver.
I like switch/breakers, I set them up for checklist flow on the panel face, however my pet peeve is breakers in your face.... I do my best to be creative with them and their placement.
Radio's.... I like the Becker I put in my cap, doesn't take any space and has an integral com.
Mounts, this cruiser doesn't have them but I'm a hotrod guy so I like it all to be flush... when I dial my Cap10 panel in its all going to be flush.
Lighting... we went with new light pucks on this panel with a dimmer... the dimmer, a bit pricey but im a fan, im chucking my cap10 post lights.
Efis-mfd's cool stuff here, especially now that I can remote mount transponders and nav radios.... aiding my low brain damage quest for a simple scan.
With the efis, mfd in the panel I still want as/alt backups maybe even an ai... I really like the teeny jet ones for backups.... stack'em three tall or side by side very little space and the size matches the becker, bonus!
Some of my design guidelines, the real challenge is the structure behind the panel, so i have a buddy cut test panels from clear plexi then I build actual modules of the instruments and radios from foam block to velcro to the plexi back to check for fit/clearance. The other trick is printing full color, 1 to 1 scale pictures of the avionics... as, alt, radios, efis, etc move them around the face of the panel until you find a good layout then block the backside with the foam mockups.... when it all fits... send it!

Well, I've been making a little bit of progress each day, just have to finish up the welding and it'll be done. The welding is super ugly but I'm getting a little better each time I take a whack at it. I'm pretty good with an oxy-acetylene torch but this TIG thing takes practice!

I took welding in college. They had an open lab, I stopped by every chance I got to practice. I ended up with an A for tig....
Its not like riding a bike, I cant do it to save my arse now!

I got an A in skiing!

The darkness setting was too high so I couldn't see the puddle very well. With gas welding I have goggles with fixed lenses, for TIG I have a Miller automatic mask and the settings are rubbed off so I should find a manual and see where the knobs are supposed to go. Being able to see the puddle might help!

Is anybody still reinstalling the compass now that they have magnetic heading/track from a G5 or GI 275?

Mine still has the mag compass but also doesn’t have the GMU 11 that’s required for magnetic heading on the 275. Even with that installed the manual reads as if the mag compass is required.

Annual! It's disassembled and I've checked every item on the Bellanca Annual Inspection Checklist.

My IA has been checking in but tomorrow I'll hand him the checklist and he'll spend most of the day examining my work. He does the mag timing, compression checks, and studies my borescope images of the valves. Hopefully, I'll get the ok to start reassembly.

It's hard to believe that I've done 35+ assisted annuals on this airplane. (Sometimes I wink at it and it seems to wink back.)

Just finished up putting this together. Owner arrives and test flies it after 2.5 years in pieces and test flew it... it had several sqwaks. He got in my face, 6" away, and and yelled and at me for what seemed like an eternity calling it a pos and saying it took me too long 2.5 years.... (one man resto-mod). Pretty much ruined my day.
Compared to a close friend, (who's wife died in a car wreck last week) he's in critical condition....
His worst day this month was a lot tougher than mine.
Hard to believe a guy would show up after his plane was literally in pieces and expect it to fly "off of the board" with no sqwaks. Just un-frggn-real.Screenshot_20260509_202412_Gallery(1).webpScreenshot_20260509_191453_Gallery(1).webpScreenshot_20260509_191404_Gallery(1).webpScreenshot_20260509_191359_Gallery(1).webp
